More Firsts

This has been a busy week for Kaelyn. For the last month, Kaelyn has been "crawling" but I use that term loosely. Crawling meant getting from point A to point B using the path of most resistance. She would take one or two crawling motions, then sit up, then roll down on to her tummy, then barrel roll, then sit back up, then get into a downward facing dog position, then take a few more crawls. But all of a sudden, it just clicked that you can continue the arm/leg motion and get somewhere a lot faster. So, now we have a full blown crawler, and a much bigger headache. She has been so good at pulling herself up and cruising along furniture that I was afraid she would skip crawling all together.

We also had our first spaghetti dinner this week. Kaelyn has been eating 3 meals a day now (plus 4 milk feedings), and it is getting to be difficult to feed her. Not only do I have to prepare something for her and chop it up, but we have been forced to go from 3 or 4 baths per week to 7. Spaghetti ended up in her hair, in her eyebrows, in between her fingers, and all over her highchair. I wonder if you can power-wash your child?

More fun with dogs and baby

Kaelyn's Easter outfit

The official countdown to summer has begun (34 school days left) and Kaelyn and I decided to celebrate with a pool party for one. Well, technically one and a half, since Gromit our dog likes to snorkel in Kaelyn's pool as well.

I learned a hard lesson in being judgmental this week. I would like to say that I "used" to judge people and now that I had my awakening, I will cease this activity, but honestly, I will still probably continue to silently judge people, I will just exclude mothers with small children.

It used to drive me crazy when I was shopping in the grocery store and the person next to me was snacking away on something they had just pulled off the shelf and opened. Really, I reasoned, would it kill them to wait an additional 3 minutes until the item was paid for? It wasn't until this week that I realized that sometimes, this is not out of hunger or boredom, but out of a deep-seeded need to quiet your child. Kaelyn is smart enough to know what her foods look and sound like, and loud enough to tell me that she knows I just put them in the grocery cart. She is also opinionated enough to tell me that if she does not get said item in a fraction of a second, every customer in Vons will know. So I was forced to resort to opening the box of toddler crackers. And then in Trader Joes, I resorted to opening the cheese sticks. And yes, even in Costco I had to open the 5 lb. container of animal crackers. Moral of the story: 1) I will be smarter in the future to bring snacks with me instead of lazily leaving the diaper bag in the car. 2) guy with open bag of Doritos snacking away while standing in the checkout line, you are still gross, and I will still silently judge you.
